The name Chappaqua is derived from an Algonquin word which translates as “running water”. Lakes, ponds and streams are abundant among the rolling wooded hills of Chappaqua. A large portion of the land has been preserved as undeveloped, open space, which helps to create Chappaqua’s rural feeling. With faithful adherence to environmental and architectural review, the town has managed to retain a country feeling with a great deal of privacy for individual homes. Architectural styles range from antique colonials to exquisite contemporaries.

From the Chappaqua train station, New York City’s Grand Central Station is a 50-minute ride. White Plains is only ten minutes away and the Saw Mill River Parkway runs right by town. The great combination of privacy and accessibility makes Chappaqua very attractive for New York City commuters. In 1864, Horace Greeley took up residence in Chappaqua and more recently, former President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton made Chappaqua their home. Residents place a high priority on education and the Chappaqua Central School District ranks consistently among New York State’s best schools with Scholastic Aptitude Test scores well exceeding the average.
